How-To Organize Your Kitchen

As you are aware, the kitchen is the heart of your home. This is where your family gathers to cook, eat, entertain, and spend time with friends and family. Because of this, the kitchen can be difficult to organize and keep clean. We are going to look at some ideas for organizing this family space.

Remember to clean your countertops and remove any items that you do not use on at least a weekly basis. Keep the cookbooks on the counter to a minimum and store the ones that you do not use on a regular basis.

You should store your pots and pans in a cabinet near the stove for easy access and to keep you from having to walk back and forth while cooking. Also store your baking sheets near the oven. A rack can help to keep them organized by size as well as by how often they are used. In order to maximize cabinet and storage space, you may want to consider hanging your pots and pans on the wall or from a ceiling mounted rack. Microwave safe containers should be stored in a cabinet located near the microwave. Arrange the containers by size and stack them inside of each other in order to save space. Dispose of any plastic containers that you no longer use.

In the pantry, make sure to store each item so that it is easily handy and visible. Place your canned goods together and stack them so that the labels can easily be seen. If you have any canned goods that are over a year old or are past their expiration date, be sure to get rid of them. Place any gravy or seasoning packets into a small clear plastic tub for easy access. Boxed goods should be lined up with their spines facing the front (like books on a shelf). Store your most commonly used items at eye level. Paper goods storage should be together and on a lower shelf. Heavy items, such as boxes of soda and juice, should either be on a lower shelf or on the floor. If there is extra wall space in the pantry, you may think of putting up some storage hooks or a bulleting board. Stacking containers and baskets can help you to stay organized and save room.

In the refrigerator, designate certain shelves for certain items, and designate one day a week to clean out old items. This can help you to keep from wasting good food as well as keep things easy to find.
